Festa della Madonna della Bruna

FESTA DELLA "MADONNA DELLA BRUNA"
La Festa della "Madonna della Bruna" ha origini antichissime. Il Pontefice Urbano VI, già vescovo di Matera, ne stabilì l'evento liturgico il 2 luglio del 1380.
La tradizionale processione dei pastori dà inizio alla festa, all'alba del 2 luglio di ogni anno. Particolare interesse rivestono la sfilata dei cavalieri in costume ed il "Carro trionfale" creato dai cartapestai locali.
Dopo aver riposto la statua della Madonna nella Basilica Cattedrale, il carro viene assalito dalla folla esultante che preserva gli elementi compositivi più significativi e ne distrugge tutto il resto.

THE CELEBRATION OF "MADONNA DELLA BRUNA"
The celebration of "Madonna della Bruna" has ancient origins. It dates back to 2nd July 1380 when the Pope Urbano VI, bishop of Matera established the liturgical event. So every year, on 2nd July, the patron saint's feast occurs with a traditional procession of shepherds. Very particular is the parade of the knights, dressed in traditional customes walking behind the thriumphal coloured cart on which the statue of tha saint stands.
After the coming back of the statue of the "Madonna della Bruna" in the Cathedral, the cart is attacked by an exultant crowd that preserves the most meaningful elements and destroys the rest of it.
