LA FESTA DI SAN GIULIANO
Il "Maggio" di Accettura č una festa ciclica, di antica, origine pagana. Ha avuto nel tempo un processo di cristianizzazione che non ha alternato la sua fisionomia originaria. La festa č dedicata a San Giuliano protettore di Accettura.
La scelta del "Maggio", l'albero pių alto del bosco di Montepiano, e della "Cima", la pių frondosa delle piante arboree d'agrifoglio del bosco di Gallipoli, viene sancita l'ottavo giorno dopo Pasqua. Il taglio del "Maggio" viene eseguito il giorno dell'Ascensione. La preparazione della festa si svolge tra l'Ascensione e la Pentecoste.
JULIAN'S FEAST
The "May tree" in Accettura is a cyclical feast, of ancient pagan origins. Nevertheless the process of christianization, it still has its original characteristics. St. Julian is the patron saint of Accettura.
The choice of the "May", the tallest tree in the wood of Montepiano, with "the leafiest top" of the arboreal plants in the wood of Gallipoli, is celebrated on the eighth day after Easter with the cut of the "May", performed on that day. The celebration includes the period from the Ascension to the Pentecost.
